HB 1439: The Mississippi School Accountability Dashboard Act

1439

House Bill 1439, sponsored by Rep. Zachary Grady, will require school districts to create a user-friendly dashboard that provides key data about schools in their district and about the district as a whole.

The Mississippi School Accountability Dashboard Act will require districts to provide the following data points for their district and each of their schools:

  • Accountability letter grades
  • Graduation rate
  • Grade 8 reading and math proficiency and growth
  • Grade 3 reading and math proficiency and growth
  • Truancy/absenteeism rate
  • Dropout rate
  • Student-to-teacher ratio
  • College placement rate
  • Job placement rate
  • Military placement rate
  • Average ACT and ACT WorkKeys scores
  • Specialty class offerings
  • Number of teachers with advanced degrees/certifications
  • Number of teachers with industry experience
  • Teacher turnover rate
  • Number of long-term substitute teachers utilized

This will provide parents with clear, comprehensive and accessible school performance information, thereby enhancing transparency and fostering accountability. This also provides the in-depth data needed to fully judge student success in the classroom.
