This week, Empower Mississippi relaunched the Mississippi School Finder website with a number of updates to help parents find the best educational setting for their child.
The newly updated site includes a mobile-friendly version, more school, district, and community details, greater interactivity, a school rating system, and a statewide Options Index.
“We know finding the right school for your child is incredibly important, but it can be incredibly difficult,” said Elyse Marcellino, Director of Embark with Empower. “This is a great tool to help parents locate the necessary information to make the best choice possible.”
Now, when users type in an address, they can search by distance, by grade, and by school type. Users can then view school and area demographics, school and district performance, and school funding type, including tuition rates and scholarship opportunities.
In addition, users may view ratings of each school’s teachers, leadership, academics, treatment of learning differences, and extracurricular activities, as well as how many people would recommend the school.
To provide additional context for parents, legislators, and entrepreneurs, the Mississippi School Finder includes a new statewide Options Index that assigns a neighborhood score between 0 and 100 calculated by reference to the following components: availability of highly-rated public schools, variety of options (private, charter, etc.) within driving distance, viewpoint diversity (denominational, non-religious, etc.) of private options, and affordability (based on median income, adjusted for schools offering tuition assistance).
