The Brief: When Crime Goes Unsolved
Big ideas. Brief conversations.
Introducing The Brief, a new bonus series from the Empower Podcast featuring conversations of 15 minutes or less about research, policy developments, and ideas shaping Mississippi.
In this first episode, Grant Callen sits down with Dr. Kristin Vance Richards, Empower Mississippi’s Director of Research, to unpack the findings of When Crime Goes Unsolved. Reported violent crime has declined, but far too many serious crimes remain unresolved. They discuss what clearance rates reveal about public safety, why the likelihood of getting caught matters, and how better investigations, stronger data, and effective reentry programs can help make Mississippi neighborhoods safer.
