Chief RaShall Brackney: Public Safety, Public Trust

What will it take to make Jackson safer and give people greater confidence in its future?

In this episode of The Empower Podcast, host Grant Callen sits down with Jackson Police Chief Dr. RaShall Brackney to discuss her first six months on the job. From growing up in Pittsburgh to a four-decade career in policing, Brackney shares the experiences that shaped her leadership and what drew her to Mississippi’s capital city.

They discuss the challenges facing the Jackson Police Department, coordination with Capitol Police, and why solving crimes and supporting victims are essential to public trust. Brackney also offers her perspective on crime statistics, the fear of crime, and how to measure whether public safety efforts are improving people’s lives.

It’s a candid conversation about policing, accountability, and why Jackson’s new chief believes the city can dream big.
