Empower exists because we want every Mississippian to have the opportunity to achieve the American Dream right here at home.
Every Mississippian deserves the opportunity to build a good life, raise a family, find meaningful work, and pursue their dreams.
Too often, outdated policies and unnecessary barriers stand in the way. We believe government policy should create opportunity, not limit it.
Empower Mississippi exists to create a path to generational prosperity for Mississippi’s children, workers, and families. We believe lasting change begins with the conditions that shape everyday life: a quality education, meaningful work, strong families, safe communities, and public policies that empower earned success.
We aren’t interested in politics for politics’ sake. We’re interested in results that improve people’s lives.
2013The year it started
Our Story
Empower Mississippi began with a simple question: Why are so many Mississippians struggling to build the life they want right here at home?
In 2013, a small group of Mississippians gathered around a restaurant patio table with a shared love for their state and a belief that Mississippi’s best days were still ahead. They envisioned an organization that would listen first, understand the root causes behind our greatest challenges, and bring people together to develop practical solutions.
That vision became Empower Mississippi.
Today, we work alongside citizens, community leaders, and policymakers to remove barriers to opportunity and expand access to quality education, meaningful work, and safer communities—so every Mississippian has the opportunity to achieve the American Dream right here at home.
