Every child in Mississippi deserves a quality education. Yet sadly, Mississippi is usually ranked last in the nation for academic achievement and the quality of our public schools. Because affluent families often have the resources to choose a private education or to relocate to better school districts, it is largely the children in low-income families that are stuck in underperforming schools. This has produced significant inequality in educational opportunities. Today in Mississippi, a quality education is often reserved for only those who can afford it. This is unacceptable.
Legislation advancing education choice would tear down barriers to a quality education and empower parents with the ability to choose an education that they determine is right for their child, whether at a traditional public school, charter school, or private school.

We believe that education funds should follow students to the schools or services that best meet their needs. There are a variety of policy proposals that allow families access to education options, including education scholarship accounts, public charter schools, tax credit scholarships, and course choice.
